For centuries people have commissioned artists to capture their images and give them immortality. Egyptian rulers and royal families would sit for portraits, leaving us a record revealing their image, status and often a fascinating family story.
Since the invention of photography in the 19th century, the camera has largely taken over this task. However, a photograph only takes a snapshot of a moment, while a painting takes much longer to create and has the artist's own interpretation buried in the work at the same time. A photograph is kept to hold a memory until it fades, but a painting will be passed from one generation to another and will last forever.
A commissioned painted portrait of you or your family will be a treasured possession forever. It will become the family heirloom. I like to include objects in the painting that are personal to you and your family and a location that reveals something more about you. This could be in your home or a landscape you love.
